“Bruce Me” Ch.2 Lao’s Time #bruceme

Lee: [a student approaches Lee; both bow] Kick me.

[Student looks confused]

Lee: Kick me.

[Student attempts kick]

Lee: What was that? An Exhibition? We need emotional content. Now try again!

[Student tries again]

Lee: I said “emotional content.” Not anger! Now try again!

[Student tries again and succeeds]

Lee: That’s it! How did it feel?

[Student thinks; Lee smacks his head]

Lee: Don’t think. FEEEEEEEEL! It’s like a finger pointing away to the moon.

[Lee looks at student who is looking at the finger; Lee smacks student again]

Lee: Do not concentrate on the finger or you will miss all of the heavenly glory!

[Student bows; Lee smacks him again]

Lee: Never take your eyes off your opponent… even when you’re bowing!

[Student bows again this time keeping his eyes on Lee]

Leek: That’s better.Quotes from Enter The Dragon imdb.com

This training was preceded by a conversation with a gentleman named Mr. Braithwaite, that appeared to be from Scotland Yard or maybe the F.B.I.

It was a very important meeting that involved a tournament.

Bruce Lee as Lee

John Saxon as Roper

Jim Kelly as Williams

These guys were headed to Han’s Island it wasn’t clear the they were a team, however they all were there to complete.

I could go on and on about the lesson Bruce Lee taught me so let’s return to “Lao’s Time”…

What seemed like a Martial Arts lesson became 1.) A lesson in self-defense.

2.) a lesson in philosophy .

3.) a lesson in trust.

4.) the difference between emotional content and anger.

5.) the difference between thinking and feeling.

Bruce Lee a student of philosophy was able to teach a lesson on focus using his finger and pointing it toward the sky while the young lad imagined.

The lesson:

The lesson was easy but it is hard and this teacher had very high expectations . it began with the statement “Don’t think feeeelll” and that statement was preceded by “Emotional content not anger”

There is a lot of information being doled out at rapid fire speed.

Simple not easy:

You don’t have to think to feel

You don’t have to think to feel

You don’t have to think to feel

I certainly hope that you get to see this movie again and again and we will revisit it in the future as part of other “Bruce Me” Chapters

Until then “When someone the pointing and the moon, don’t concentrate on the finger or you’ll miss all that heavenly glory…Bruce Lee -“Enter the Dragon”
